T-shirt quilts are a great way to preserve the memories of favorite shirts collected throughout high school and college! Other common themes are concert T-shirts, sports memorabilia, tourist tees, clothes worn by a loved one, and even baby clothes! We charge $20 per block/shirt to make the quilt. Pricing includes cutting the shirts to make blocks, stabilizing them, sewing them together with or without sashing (your choice), 80/20 batting for the inside of the quilt, a solid color of quilt backing fabric of your choice, thread color of your choice, quilting on our longarm machine, creating and sewing on the binding around the outer edge of the quilt. You can generally get 16" from one adult T-shirt. A minimum of 9 t-shirts will make a nice size throw of 3 blocks across and 3 blocks down, but the more shirts you have the bigger we can make your quilt!
The CLASSIC BLOCK PATTERN looks like a grid (for example, 4 blocks across and 5 blocks down). One adult t-shirt usually makes a 16" square quilt block. In the case of using kids clothing, the exact size of the block depends upon the size of t-shirts used. We generally identify the smallest t-shirt and then maximize the size of the block we can make from it, resulting in all blocks being made the same size. You may choose whether or not you would like sashing between each of the blocks (solid color of your choice).
The CRAZY QUILT PATTERN is a layout kids love, which consists of blocks of various sizes, shapes and colors mixed together! This is perfect for the person who wants to incorporate a bunch of shirts into a single quilt. It is also great for baby clothes, onesies, and kids clothes that fall short of the 16" quilt block often used with adult sized t-shirts. Pricing is similar to the Classic Block Pattern in that the number of shirts used to sew a 16" square is counted as one $20 charge.
